How do I do moderated grading?
For courses that have multiple graders or TFs, moderated grading may be a feasible option for more controlled grading. As its name suggests, moderated grading offers TFs and instructors/faculty the option of having up to 2 reviewers to assess a student's submission and grade accordingly, followed by a final review by the moderator.
The instructor/faculty also known as the moderator, would review the previous assessment(s) made by the TF(s), and make a final decision on which assessment to select. Additionally, if the instructor is not satisfied with the assessments, the instructor may provide their own assessment independent to the TFs.
Process Overview
- Create assignment with Moderated Grading enabled.
- Select student(s) to add to the moderation set for review.
- TFs grade using the SpeedGrader links on the moderation page for the assignment.
- Instructor / Faculty reviews assessment(s) given by TF(s).
- Instructor / Faculty selects an assessment and provides any additional comments, or completes an independent assessment.
- Instructor / Faculty verifies that all students added to the moderation set have a grade selected
- Grades are posted to the Gradebook and released to students via the Post button on the moderation page.
Notes:
- Each reviewer's assessment is independent, and each TF cannot see each others' assessment of student submissions in SpeedGrader.
- The moderator is the only one who is able to see all of the assessments for a submission.
- Grades can only be posted once, so make sure that all of the students that you would like to have included in the moderation set for grading has been added and a grade has been selected!
- Students can be left out of the moderation set, and will be graded normally by one person instead.
