How to upload and embed videos to Canvas via Kaltura

Kaltura is Harvard GSE's video hosting platform. Kaltura integrates with Canvas via the Media Gallery link in the left-side course navigation menu, and video the toolbar widget in the Canvas Rich Content Editor. Video content can be uploaded to your repostitory and the course repository via either tool. If you choose, you can embed Kaltura content within Canvas pages, discussions, and announcements. Please note that the Media Gallery link is not visible to students; in order to share video with students, it must be embedded in a Canvas content area the students have access to....

How to Publish Videos to a Media Gallery

Intro

Videos that you have uploaded into one course's Media Gallery will not automatically appear in another course's Media Gallery; you have to manually publish them to each course that you would like to share videos to. 

You are able to publish videos directly from the current course's Media Gallery, or you can publish videos directly from My Media. 

Once you have published your videos, they will appear in the course's Media Gallery for other course members with staff-level access (TA/TF/Teacher) to view and have access to.

How to Add Collaborators to a Kaltura Video

Intro

If you would like to give individuals access to your videos so that they can either edit or publish your video(s), or do both on your behalf, you can add them as a collaborator to your video(s) with two levels of permissions. By default the uploader is also called the owner of the video and automatically has full access to editing and publishing the video.

How to Create an Assignment for Video (Kaltura) Submissions

Intro

Before students can submit to an assignment, they'll need to have a space where they can submit their recordings. Students will submit their recordings to an assignment using the Text Entry option.

Procedure

1. Click on Assignments

2. Click on the +Assignment button on the top-right hand side of the page.

3. Fill out the assignment's details.

How to Install Kaltura CaptureSpace

Intro

Kaltura's CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder allows you to capture and record your screen, webcam, and audio all in real-time. In order to access CaptureSpace and upload your content into your course, you'll first have to download and install CaptureSpace to your computer.
